Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Dear Boarding Parents

As we meet the halfway point of the term the boarders have been kept busy with a number of different activities as part of the AIC sporting competition and also through our boarders’ recreation program. Academically, our Year 12s are about to embark on a very important exam block and most of the younger boarders are noticing an increased workload with assignments and other assessable work. It will be very important for all boys to work consistently and manage their time during this period. Our boarding staff are well aware of upcoming deadlines and other pressures on the boys and will support them through this period. Please contact your son’s Boarding Leader if you are concerned about your son’s progress.

This Saturday night is an important date on our boarding calendar – the annual Boarders’ Night on the Green which will take place under the stars on McMahon Oval. This special event has been held for a number of years at Marist College Ashgrove to showcase the musical talent of our boarders, as well as our invited guests, the Year 11 and 12 boarders from the Stuartholme School. There are a number of individual performances planned, as well as duets and bands. I have no doubt the breadth of talent will be evident for all to see. I am very grateful to the Marist Technical Team for their expertise with lighting and sound to make this event so special. Night on the Green is attended exclusively by Year 11 and 12 boarders each year and it is definitely something the younger boys look forward to as they come up through the grades. We are looking forward to this unique event which celebrates the diversity of our boarders and the musical opportunities that are provided at Marist.

Another much-anticipated event is the City vs Country rugby league match will be played on McMahon Oval next Tuesday afternoon. The City team is made up of Year 12 day students and the Country team is made up of Year 12 boarders. This match is sure to be a great spectacle and we hope many will be able to watch the game given that it is on the afternoon that school breaks up for the Ekka mini break.

Finally, I know that many boarders are looking forward to the upcoming Ekka break and the opportunity to go on leave with family or friends. If your son is heading away, please ensure you submit a leave request on the REACH system as soon as possible. For those boys staying at school, staff will be on duty, residences will be open and activities available for the boys.
