INQUIRY FOCUS FOR TERM 4

This term, the students will engage in many learning opportunities designed to deepen their understanding of how we change physically, emotionally and socially, as we grow and develop and how we keep ourselves safe and healthy.

To launch our learning, students from Foundation to 4 will participate in workshops run by Body Safe Australia and Year 5 to 6 students by Open Doors.

BODY SAFE AUSTRALIA

Body Safe Superstars program is designed to empower and educate children to understand and communicate their right to bodily autonomy. The workshops are inclusive and age-appropriate and educate students about healthy and respectful relationships. Every class will participate in sessions that incorporate engaging games, stories, activities, group work and guided discussions to:

  • Identify and communicate emotions
  • Learn about their body's 'early warning signs
  • Understand that humans have different fear responses: fight, flight and freeze
  • Assertively communicate their right to bodily autonomy
  • Identify their Safe Adults
  • Know that their body belongs to them and nobody has the right to touch it without permission
  • Accurately name their genitals using words that healthcare professionals would use
  • Understand that sometimes adults make decisions about a child's body for health, hygiene and safety reasons.
  • Understand the difference between a surprise and a secret
  • Learn about online & technology safety
