Empower Encourage and Englighten

In Term 3, 6 Students from years, 8 & 9 participated in a new PCYC program called "Empower, Encourage and Enlighten". These students learned and developed new skills to better handle the many challenges they face during their teenage years.

This is a program that empowers students to choose a new mindset, one that makes them feel more in control of their lives, their choices, and their emotions.

Enlightened Empowerment helps students navigate life's challenges, by providing them with the tools for success so that they can feel more resilient, become leaders of their own lives, and experience more joy happiness, and peace.

Venue of Program

The first 2 weeks were held at Headspace, where the program was introduced to the students and staff. The program was coordinated by Senior Constable Jodie Millar, Youth Case Manager, and was supported by her work colleagues at PCYC Griffith.

There were various activities such as;

  • watching an inspiring movie
  • writing their goals
  • gentle exercise
  • discussion of the movie
  • mental health
  • fun exercise

In weeks 3 & 4, the students were transported to PCYC where they started off with a fun exercise class with Alana, then a headspace discussion about Alcohol and drugs and Alex Davies presented 'making good choices', and the dangers to be aware of online. Alana and Chrissy from PCYC ran a fun boot camp challenge, and headspace presented 'Healthy relationship'.

The students had so much fun interacting with an Animal therapy session, in which they learned the benefits of caring for animals, by Stephanie Dickie. One of our students became very confident in holding one of the therapy dogs, and she overcame her fear of dogs. At the end of the week, they talked about 'considering self-growth while painting.

Week 5, Jodie picked up the girls from Marian to Headspace where they attended a Personal presentation workshop including practical hair and makeup tips. Girls were then transported to IL Corso later that evening to have dinner and graduate.

The PCYC Empower, Encourage, Enlighten Program was such a success, we would like to offer this positive program to other female students in 2023.

IT Sessions for Seniors

IT Session for seniors is back in Term 4.

We had four lovely year 9 students who were very eager to help our local seniors their IT Skills.

The next Senior Session will run from on Thursday, 17th of November from 10 am until 11am, at the Griffith City Library as a free service. Sadly it will be our last session for the year, but hopefully we can rerun this successfull program next year as the past two years, had been challenging time through covid.
