Sacrament of Confirmation

We congratulate the Grade 6 students who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation. What a special time for you to finalise your initiation into the Catholic Church, choosing a Saint’s name that you respect, and a sponsor who can lead you in life and faith.

Grade 4/5 Parent/Child Workshop

Thank you to the families who came along to our Grade 4/5 Parent/Child Workshop this week.

The theme was centred around the Catholic Social Teaching of Dignity of the Human Person.

The Bible teaches us how God wants us to live with other people. Catholic Social Teaching principles are founded on the messages of the prophets, of Jesus and of our church leaders.

Dignity of the Human Person

We are all special because God made us. We have to make sure other people are treated with respect and fairness because God made them too! The dignity of every person, independent of ethnicity, creed, gender, age or ability, is the foundation of Catholic Social Teaching. No human being should have their dignity or freedom compromised.

If you are interested in learning more, head to the Caritas website.

A message from Tony French, St Vincent de Paul Cheltenham

Once again we are asking the OLA Community through its Mini-Vinnies group, to help us collect gifts for the children in our community who are in need. This year we will be giving Retailer Gift Cards to each child rather than toys. There is now a wide variety of cards and possibly 80% of the children are at an age to enjoy making their own shopping choices.

The attached Table shows 45 children currently included.

Alternatively, some school families may wish to donate festive foods etc. which may help the whole family to celebrate a little better, for example, chocolate, bon bons and other Christmas treats. We would be most grateful if all donations could be returned by Friday 18th November. Sincere thank for your ongoing generosity and support.

PS The number of children is likely to grow to 55 or more by early December but we will also have the usual “Giving Tree” in the church foyer in late November to add to the Gift Cards and festive foods we have available.
