Wellbeing

This week we wanted to introduce or reacquaint you with 'The Resilience Project'.  The Resilience Project (TRP) is one of the main programs that we use at Monty Primary, to support the wellbeing of our students. This program teaches positive mental health strategies to help students become happier and more resilient. The research shows that the more positive emotion you experience, the more resilient you will be. For this reason , TRP focus' on three key pillars proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM). The program also has a strong focus on Connection, Purpose, Kindness, Emotional Literacy and Physical Health.

We hope that over time your child/children will become very familiar with GEM (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness) and will make these three concepts part of their daily life. Throughout the day at school, students are encouraged and offered many opportunities to practise GEM. This can happen throughout morning circle times, using the student wellbeing journals provided by TRP or incidental moments when the opportunity presents itself.  The students in Grades 2-6 also have a school diary complied by TRP which has many quick and easy activities and reminders for maintaining a happy and healthy mind and body.

Families can also visit the TRP Website and click on the link to TRP@HOME.  This part of the website has activities and ideas on how to spread happiness and build resilience in kids, teens, adults and parents.  This TRP@HOME is worth looking at.

Here are three ways to practise Gratitude:

  1. What was the best thing that happened to me today?
  2. Who am I most grateful for today and why?
  3. What am I looking forward to most tomorrow?

So maybe this weekend talk to your child/children about GEM (gratitude, empathy and mindfulness) and make a plan to introduce more of these three into your day.

Stay well
