Rowing Report

To commence the rowing season of 2022, all rowers travelled to the banks of the Barwon River for a five-day rowing camp. Starting on Australia Day, the camp was full of intense training, formidable racing and a little flash flooding. With training starting at 6:30am every morning, all crews and singles rowed over fifteen kilometres every day in preparation for racing Saturday and Sunday.

What a competition it was! All crews experienced great success over the two days of racing, and special mentions must go out to Hattie Nicholls and Jemima Ross who won the Under 15 Female Double Scull. The camp and regatta was a great experience for everyone involved, which set the pace for the rest of the season leading into the next weekend in Ballarat, but it couldn’t run as smoothly as it did without the help of Jackie O’Brien, Sarah Roberts and all rowing parents.

The following weekend, we headed down the Hamilton highway before the sun had even batted an eyelid, ready for a day full of racing. The course was 2km which tested the senior’s fitness abilities but they pushed through and had a successful day. Senior boys, consisting of Ned Walker, Will Merrin, Ollie Ferguson, Angus Stewart and coxed by Minnie Walker, won their Under 19 Male Coxed Quad Scull and the senior girls showed vast improvement to place second in their Division 2 A Final. On Sunday, the junior rowers, and some seniors, participated in the 1km regatta. Special mentions go to the crew of George McMullen, Harry Dorahy, Clyde Innes, Ollie Pern and coxed by Adam Cameron for winning the Male C Grade Coxed Quad Scull, Hattie Nicholls and Jemima Ross for holding their title as the Under 15 Female Double Scull champions and the Year 9 crew consisting of Olivia Rees, Charlotte Butcher, Matilda Lu, Emma Donovan and coxed by Jemima Ross which won their Division 3 Final. Overall, both days were a great success but wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing coaches Simon Ross, Josh Frichot and Paul Mould. A huge thank you to Mr Palmer and Dr Hirst for also helping on the day and transporting us. If anyone is interested in joining rowing don’t hesitate to ask Dr Hirst, Ned Walker or Lucy Roberts.

Netball

The Saturday morning netball competition starts again on 19 February at HILAC and we are hurriedly trying to get teams together. If your child has not yet registered (there is a form to fill out on Teams (Senior School Students / Announcements – scroll up a little to the correct notice) could they please do so ASAP.

The season is only five weeks long due to the overlap with the South West League and Hampden Leagues starting their seasons on 2 April. Therefore, the season will end on 26 March.  Payments for the season are not yet available, but all payments are now going through an app/website called NetballConnect. Please download or register for this new site.  I found that in the app you had to shrink the keyboard to be able to see all the ‘buttons’. I found it easier to complete relevant things on the website.  Parents may want to check this out and familiarise themselves with it.  Money will be payable through this site.  https://netballconnect.worldsportaction.com/login or via the NetballConnect App on your smartphone (App Store or Google Play).

Any volunteers to umpire, manage or coach would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know via email or send a message with your child. Looking forward to another successful season!
