Boarding

This week, our 70 boarders begin their academic journey with the intent to give their best in all walks of College life. After a wonderous time on the variety of camps, retreats, day trips and starting in Senior School, our boarders were exhausted by the end of last week. Justifiably, they have enjoyed a restful weekend and are making good progress in setting up solid routines for success. I am seeing whiteboards in rooms, lists being made, and an attitude to keeping their room neat and tidy that any parent would be proud of.

It can be an unnerving time when you begin boarding for the first time, and this year we have welcomed 29 new boarders and their families to our community. I have been taken by the way our older boarders have supported younger boarders, how our staff are so innately caring, compassionate and empathetic, and the courage our new boarders have shown in giving anything and everything a go.

I thank all parents and staff for the effort in welcoming each other on the Myrniong lawn for our afternoon tea to begin of the year. Understandably we all live busy lives, and for those who were unable to make it we have recorded the afternoon tea so all community members are able to watch this; please click here https://vimeo.com/672141482/4ab8df6f9e

New Staff

I make welcome to our new staff, Vincent Naidu who is tutoring mathematics in the evenings and residing onsite, Joachim Rymarz who is a Business Management teacher and living in the Spiers House residence, and Lori Rong who will be teaching Chinese and working in our EAL program, whilst also living onsite and working as an MOD in our Mac House. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of Abbie Cameron and Nick Palmer as Heads of House. Both are advancing their academic careers with Abbie teaching psychology at the Senior School and Dr Nick Palmer is working with Deakin University. Both will still be regularly working as MOD’s in each House.

Boarder of the Week

Congratulations to our boarder of the week, Sarah Andersen (Year 11). Sarah was a tremendous help to our younger boarders these past two weeks. Her own journey in boarding is one to be shared with younger boarders, in particular those from South Australia. Sarah is compassionate, caring and empathetic to the needs of our younger boarders and we are proud to have witnessed her at her best. Thank you, Sarah.

Welcome Back

It is a warm welcome to have Yong An Ly and Yong Soeung Ly in our Boarding House once again. The Ly brothers have been engaged in remote learning for an extensive period of time and have almost seamlessly walked back into the boarding life. It is with tremendous applause we all welcome our international boarders back into our boarding community.

We are looking forward to the Exeat break next month. Over this long weekend, our International boarders require a homestay for 11 – 14 March. We have three international students requiring a place to stay for the weekend; brothers Yong An Ly (Yr 12) and Yong Soeung Ly (Yr 11), and Frank Xu. (Yr 8). If possible, the brothers would prefer to be together.

If you are able to offer a homestay for the Exeat weekend, please get in touch with Director of Boarding, Andrew Monk.
