Wellbeing & Engagement

Hello to the Rangeview school community!

I am so excited to be joining the school for Term 1 this year in my role as Acting Assistant Principal (Wellbeing and Engagement). Liz, Marika and Kate have led the school remarkably well over the years and I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity to step in and help guide the school through these ‘next steps’ of its journey. Everyone has been so welcoming and it’s clear there is an amazing culture here at Rangeview.

This is my first foray into an Assistant Principal role after 12 years as a classroom teacher at Croydon Hills, so I’ll be doing lots of learning on the job. As we encourage and support our students to do every single day, stepping outside of the comfort zone, taking risks and being open to new learning are key traits of successful lifelong learners. This is a trait that I will be aiming to model strongly to students this term.

I am very passionate about ensuring the wellbeing of students (along with families and staff) is a key area of focus at all times. Given what we have all been through over the past couple of years, it is more crucial than ever that wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do. Our aim will be to ensure students are coming to school happy, they feel safe, they are engaged with their learning and are supported to be the best version of themselves.

It has been great to already meet many of you over the first week of school, and I will continue to be out and about before and after school in the yard - so please feel free to come over and say hi! I am really looking forward to getting to know the school community and doing the best I can to make a really positive impact here at Rangeview. Highlights for me so far have been getting into every single classroom and meeting all the students at the school, along with welcoming all of the new Foundation students to school for the very first time!

School Crossing News

We received information this week that our regular crossing supervisor, Loren, unfortunately suffered a fall and has been in hospital. Loren is undergoing rehabilitation and will be absent for some time. We wish Loren a speedy recovery!

On this topic, can we please ask that all families commit to using the school crossings and model correct road safety behaviours to all of our students. We have received a number of reports over the first week of school that students are running across the roads in unsupervised areas to get to school or when leaving in the afternoon. We would like to avoid any unnecessary accidents and ensure everyone in our school community remains safe when using the roads.

ParentZone Newsletter

Finally, the ParentZone Eastern Newsletter for Term 1 has many great resources for parents of primary aged children. A page I have included here contains information about the ParentZone Podcast, which covers topics such as Dealing with Anxiety, Sibling Rivalries and How to Respond to Kids’ Behaviours.

I am looking forward to a wonderful first term.

Kind regards,

Liam Sommers

Acting Assistant Principal (Wellbeing and Engagement)
