Religion and Parish News

The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.

During the course of September the staff and students at St Mary’s College have prayed at assembly and daily in PACC groups in unity with all Christians for the Season for Creation.

As bearers of God’s image, all people have the responsibility and privilege of caring for God’s creation. Christians in particular should be motivated by Scripture. We ought to love and care for the Earth because it is God’s very good creation, and because we must care for the most vulnerable people on the planet.

Teachers and Leaders Mass was celebrated at St Josephs Catholic Church before school on Friday 16 September. It was a perfect spring morning and was attended by many staff and school leaders.

We also celebrated Mercy Day with some fun activities at school - followed by a lovely Mass in the Parish with Year 12 and the Sisters of Mercy.

What is Mercy Day? Mercy Day—September 24—is the anniversary of the opening of the first “House of Mercy” in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland. Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, devoted her life to the poor, sick and uneducated, and today we continue her legacy of caring and compassion in the name of Mercy.
