Benilde

Benilde’s start to the 2022

School year was certainly different to other years, with assemblies being held outdoors due to COVID restrictions, where we would have usually been in the hall. We kicked off the school year with the first major event that was House Athletics, but first came the annual Hackett Mile.

All the Benilde students that competed were amazing, including Alex Gibson and Nik Atsis who came 1st and 2nd respectively in the Year 12 heat, congratulations!  Edward Gibson in Year 10 ran second, an excellent effort!  There were also some brilliant results in the other year levels that ensured we went into Athletics day 2nd overall. Thank you to everyone that participated in the Hackett Mile, showing the true Benilde spirit.

Athletics day was a slow start for the seniors, but we managed to pick up towards the end, helping us finish 3rd. Fortunately, the juniors blitzed all the events the following day, which ensured we kept a commanding lead and finished 1st in the juniors. Overall, Benilde narrowly lost by just one point in the overall House Athletics to McCristal house, which certainly was controversial to say the least.

Nevertheless, it was fantastic to see our students from the Bentleigh East campus join us on the day to compete in events, and we look forward to celebrating many more activities as a combined campus and community.

Next on the school calendar is our annual MAD Day on Friday 25 March, which we didn’t get to celebrate in 2020, and COVID restrictions meant that last year’s day was not as normal as previous years. However, this year, if all goes to plan, we will be celebrating what is one of the favourite days of the year for the St Bede’s students. We have some amazing events and fundraisers planned to help raise money for our programs in India, Thailand, PNG and Balgo.
