Getting Real  in Business Management

A message from Year 11 Business Management Class

Getting Real in Business Management

Our SAC for Outcome 2 in Business Management this term was based on the study we undertook on Marketing a Business.  We studied topics including: Achieving Business Objectives, Target Markets, Market Research Practices, Product Development, Brand Identity and Corporate Social Responsibility.

After studying the theory, our class was divided into teams and given the task of developing and marketing a healthy snack product. We were tasked with creating the healthy snack based on information gained from our student surveys and our own personal interests. We also designed logos, created suitable (sustainable) packaging, developed a marketing plan, designed advertisements, created a web page and provided a sample of our product to each member of our class. The final assessment was in the form of a class presentation where each team presented their product and all aspects of the research and Marketing Campaign with use of a detailed PowerPoint.

Working in a team was a real learning experience. We needed to cooperate, negotiate, compromise and communicate effectively with our team, particularly when we had differing opinions regarding important business decisions. We learned to be diplomatic and supportive to enable the team to be successful. Putting theory into practice was an effective way to better understand the theory itself. Overall, it was very enjoyable and an unforgettable learning experience.

‘We worked alongside our peers to create or innovate a product to present to the class. It was a great experience, that we are grateful for, and very different from the same old written assessments’
