Principal's Report

Dear Families,
Election Day BBQ …..PLEASE HELP US!!!!
We are in desperate need of helpers to run the Election Day BBQ. At this stage we have just 6 wonderful parents who have put their names down to cook, serve or take money on the day. If you can spare an hour that will help in the rostering and running this fundraiser. All monies raised will go towards landscaping and planting. We need your support….
Reporting
Reporting to parents about how each child’s learning is progressing has three equally important parts at Boronia Heights. There is the Student Portfolios that are sent home at the end of each semester that include authentic learning tasks that children have completed during the term along with the assessment criteria for these tasks. There are the three way conferences that are conducted formally at the end of Term 1 and 3 and informally whenever the teacher or parent request a meeting. The third aspect of our reporting is the formal written report that is provided to parents at the end of Term 2 (mid-year) and end of Term 4 (end-year). The feedback from our 3 way conferences has been fabulous thank you to those families that were part of these interviews, your participation and support is crucial for your child’s success. Please make sure you have registered and have a COMPASS log in so that you can access your child’s report.
School Review
It has been extremely busy in our school over the past two weeks as we are involved in our school review to establish our new targets and goals for the next four years. This is an exciting process as it gives the school the opportunity to give evidence to our reviewers of our achievements over the past four years and also focus on the areas that we can improve on. Our staff, students and parents have been heavily involved in the processes and procedures and I thank them all sincerely for giving their time to be involved in this process.
Canteen
Thank you for your support over the past two weeks with the re-introduction of our canteen. Our canteen menu has changed slightly and has some healthier options included. Cathy who runs our canteen has certainly organised herself in our new space to cater for the increase in orders. Thank you to our community who have supported the canteen. Our canteen operates every Monday and Friday.
Prep Information Evening for 2020 Preps
Our first Prep information evening will be held on Tuesday 21st May from 7pm till 8pm. The Prep team, myself and our guest speaker Michelle Moya our Occupational Therapist will outline the learning opportunities for Boronia Heights students and answer any questions about our programs especially our innovative Foundation Program. All prospective parents are very welcome on the night.
Boronia Heights Celebrating Education Week and Prep Expo
On Thursday May 30th from 5:00 to 6:00pm, preceding our School Open night, we will be holding a special Boronia Heights Prep Expo where we showcase our Foundation Program in the BER building for 2020 Preps. This is a night where we invite prospective parents to come along and see the wonderful programs on offer at Boronia Heights, with presentations from some of our student leaders and performances by some of our most talented singers and musicians. Please let any of your friends, who are considering a school for next year know about this special event. During the Prep Expo our specialist teachers will be available for all parents to speak to, as well as fabulous activities happening in all Prep rooms.
Families can then stay after the Expo and visit the classrooms as part of our Open Night. All classrooms will be open from 6:00pm with the invitation for parents to come and visit and look at the displays of children’s work and see their outstanding learning spaces. Following the classrooms being open we will be showcasing our student’s talents in our amazing new gym. Please join us to support our children in our School Expo. We would love to see you on Open Night and/or Open day, it is always a delight to see the children engaged in truly worthwhile activities that interest and stimulate their learning. Please see our flyer attached to the newsletter for times. The theme for education week this year is ‘Celebrating Careers’, all classes will be open for our families to join in and observe the children in action. During Open Morning on Thursday bring some morning tea to share with your child at recess. Please put the date in your calendar. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Trivia Night
Our wonderful Hubsters are organising a Trivia Night on the 17th August at 7:30pm in our amazing gymnasium. This is our major fundraiser for this year and really encourage families to ask friends and family to make up a table and be involved in a fun filled night. If you cannot make up a table, no problem, we can put you on a table where you can meet new families in our school.
Tickets are not on sale as yet, but put this date in your diary and come along to this fun filled night.
If you would like to help us organise this event or you are aware of a company that would like to donate some wonderful prizes, please give your details to the office, we would love to hear from you. Look out for further information on the Trivia Night.
