LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

This week is Naidoc week and we are enjoying reading some beautiful new books about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures. In particular, we are focusing on visual literacy and the techniques illustrators have used to enhance the story being told. Kinder to Year Two is reading ‘We all Sleep’ by Ezekiel Ezekiel Kwaymullina & Sally Morgan and ‘My Lost Mob’ by Venetia Tyson. Stage 2 and 3 are reading ‘My Culture & Me’ by Gregg Dreise, learning new Aboriginal words and about the importance of culture and lore to Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders. All students are also completing some artwork which will come together in a collaborative wall mural that I am looking forward to sharing with you soon.

Next term we start reading some of the shortlisted CBCA ‘Book of the Year’ nominees and students have a chance to vote for their favourite to see if they agree with the judges' choices which are announced in week 5. Early next term we will outline the details of Book Week, but get your thinking caps on now as the eagerly anticipated book parade is on in week 5 which students are already getting excited about. Stay tuned next term for more information.

Scholastic Book Club

Books arrived at school yesterday (Monday) so we are busy opening boxes and getting them sorted into correct orders and classes and we anticipate these being distributed on Wednesday. Thank you again to families who were able to place an order, the credit we receive with Scholastic is greatly appreciated and we use this to purchase more beautiful books for your children to enjoy in the library.

CBCA Shortlist Book of the Year Nominees - New Illustrator

In our final preview of the CBCA Book of the Year awards, we are looking at the New Illustrator shortlisted nominees. This section of the CBCA awards is interesting as they are a combination of both fiction and non-fiction books and are always engaging for readers. When these books go on display in the library, they are some of the first that are chosen and students often just enjoy picking them up to look at the pictures. This Award aims to recognise and encourage new talent in the field of Australian children's book illustration. Ages 0-18 years.

Holiday Reading - Overdrive (digital library)

Don’t forget that not only is your child able to borrow books from our library to read during the holidays, but they can also use the Armidale Catholic School’s digital library (called Overdrive) too.  To access Overdrive you can download the app called SORA (Overdrive’s ebook library) or go through the HTS website.

SORA APP - school account, add a library, select Armidale Catholic Schools system, search for ‘Holy Trinity School Inverell’, enter in student username. The username is the student’s name before the email domain (ie: jsmith, jsmith20, NOT the full email address).

SCHOOL WEBSITE - in main menu at top, drop down K-6 or 7-10 Section, select K-6 or 7-10 Links, select Holy Trinity School library, select Overdrive link (fourth one down), enter in student username. The username is the student’s name before the email domain (ie: jsmith, jsmith20, NOT full email address).

If your child is unsure of their username, please let me know before Friday.

If you have any overdue books at home, could you please assist your child in having a look for them and returning them to school. Thank you!
