Student Musings on Remote Learning

Anzac Day Challenge

First of all, a shout out to all those RSC musicians and their teachers who are getting online and making it work whilst the music department is operating remotely.

I was greeted by my Year 11's in sombreros that made my day!

Not sure if you know, or not, about a news report on an at-home ANZAC day event, where brass players everywhere will stand in their driveway on Saturday 25 April at 6am and play The Last Post and Reveille.

Why should trumpet players have all the fun? No offence RSC trumpeters.

Maybe we can use this as a way for all RSC musicians to make a difference during these difficult times.

I'm putting the challenge out there to everyone to have a go - strings, woodwind, brass and yes, percussion players - use your glock that you have at home, or accompany, on your snare, a recording.

I am hoping you all know or are starting to realise how powerful music is in situations like these, especially in keeping communities going.

Check out the link below on how to do it. For those who need help in transposing the part so they can play on their instrument, please email your teachers asap, so they can assist.

Stay tuned and stay well,

Middle School Student Information

Middle School are currently organising a Year 9 Assembly for Week 3, and a Year 10 Assembly for Week 4. These will be held on Teams, and students will be invited to attend during their scheduled InterGREAT or Bounce lesson for that week. More details to come.

A reminder about next week’s Elevate Parent Webinar. A large number of RSC families have already signed up to attend this seminar, held on a private YouTube channel. This session will tackle student engagement in the remote learning space over Term 2. The webinar is next Tuesday, 28th April at 6pm, and the link to attend is https://www.elevatecoaching.info/parent-webinar-vic/.

Pure Talent 2020

We are excited that Pure Talent 2020 is now live. https://www.maroondah.vic.gov.au/Pure-Talent-2020

We are pleased to have two of our RSC Students featured in this exhibition. Well done to Angie Symon and Ngun Len Sung Cen Hrang (Students from 2019)

The on line exhibition celebrates diverse artworks from eleven creative young people who completed their VCE in 2019 across six Secondary schools in Maroondah. The artworks will be presented on the Wyreena website for an extended period, highlighting the creative talents and ability of young people to engage and inspire their communities. There will also be information about each artist on the Maroondah Youth website www.maroondahyouth.com.au/Programs-for-Young-People/Get-creative/Pure-Talent

Maroondah Arts is aiming for the exhibition and content to be active and engaging, with additional content being added through Wyreena, Arts in Maroondah and Maroondah Youth social media throughout the exhibition period.

A Poem from Natalie in 7I

I used to walk into the classroom,

And feel a gleaming sense of pride,

But now I feel as though,

That spark has gone and died.

I used to sit outside at lunch,

Laugh and chat with all my friends,

But now I can’t help but think,

That we’ve finally reached the end.

I used to hate my alarm,

That woke me up every morning,

But now I want it back,

As my sense of panic keeps dawning.

I used to play sport all the time,

Playing hard alongside my team,

But now I’m all alone,

And sport seems like a dream.

I used to dread some subjects,

Their names I will not say,

But I think I’d rather dread them at school,

Than sit at my desk wanting them back everyday.

I used to wish the lockers weren’t so busy,

That I could just gather my things,

But without the hustle and bustle,

I feel lonely without the annoyance it brings.

Sometimes I regret feeling dread,

When now we are stuck here,

For what good is dread?

When life was perfectly sincere.

And I guess that all along,

We shouldn’t have wished away our lives,

Maybe we should just enjoy,

One moment at a time.

Student Comments:

2 of the 7I ACE kids commented after drawing a mind map in their books about what the Ancient Greeks invented…

“My hand is now starting to remember that the Greeks invented too much”.

And the reply from a class mate…

“Just do it on Popplet!”
