Four Reasons Young People Should Read Humour.
- Humour engages young people (particularly reluctant readers) through laughter.
- Young people interact with their peers and foster friendships through humorous literature as they enjoy sharing the laughs with their peers.
- Humorous books reflect reality, which, in reality, is a mixture of sad and funny, joy and pain, highs and lows.
- Far from being an ‘easy option’, humorous literature encourages critical reading as young people learn to read between the lines and develop an awareness of subtlety and sarcasm, right and wrong
A Millennials Fate
By Natasha Burton Year 10
Millennials will be known for nothing,
A technologically educated group of selfie takers.
Powered only by the artificial likes that appear buzzing,
We are the peaking generation of problem fakers.
They say our egos are the size of blue whales,
We’ve allowed the art of conversation to be forgotten.
And the only attachment we have are in emails,
Even though many of us long to be wrapped in cotton.
We are seen as congested and polluted brains,
Distraught by our eagerness to belong.
Broadcasting our first world problems as if they are hurricanes,
Privileged and cradled we are not at all seen as strong.
Though strong we are, as we have to clean up your mess.
Centuries of damage and alas we’re the thoughtless.
