Sports Report

Southern Metropolitan Region Sport Results

Term 2 saw three of our Senior Boys sporting teams progress through to Southern Region Finals held earlier this term. This was a fantastic result considering our Senior Boys were able to not only win all three carnivals but do so within the same term, showing the wide spread of talent we have in our Senior ranks.

Senior Boys Soccer - Coached by Mr Chandra

Our Senior boys soccer team have been the most consistent performers over the last four years. Each year the team, led by Mr Chandra, has qualified through to Southern Region but has been thwarted in their attempt to progress further in the competition. This year was no different, however the boys played some incredible football along the way. Their two matches were against Hampton Park Secondary College and Dandenong High School and a 1-1 draw against Hampton Park in their first match was a great start as Dandenong was always going to be tough. They are the previous State Champions and had not conceded a goal in two campaigns. That was until Mitch Anderson (Yr 12) put a goal into the back of the net early in the first half and the boys got very excited. Unfortunately from there, Dandenong switched to another level and put three goals on the board defeating us 3-1 and our journey was over.

Senior Boys AFL Football - Coached by Mr Jack

This group of Senior Boys have had an amazing journey over the past 6 years. In 2012, their Year 7 year, this group of boys finished 3rd in the State for Football. In 2013, they finished runners up in the State, and each year since they have finished in the top 8 schools in Victoria. A truly remarkable effort from this group. This year, again the boys progressed through to Southern Region however the team has started to deplete a little bit with some of our boys entering into VCAL, left for apprenticeships or work placements. The two matches played were against McKinnon Secondary and Alkira College. McKinnon College were very impressive right from the start and we never caught up right from the start. A 5 goal loss to McKinnon, who recently lost to Maribyrnong College in the State final, meant progressing was impossible leading into the Alkira match. The boys played out their last match really well with a convincing victory over Alkira College by 6 goals to end their 6 year journey on a really positive note. Well done boys!

Best Players: Brad Magee, Ishak Bashir and Isaac Nippard

Senior Boys Badminton - coached by Mr Cox

Our Senior Badminton team travelled to Springers Leisure Centre to take on the best Badminton players in the Southern Region and it was an experience. Not known for our Badminton talents our first match was up against Melbourne High School. The boys tried really hard however the previous State Champions were not too troubled by us and made quick work with us. The next game was more competitive against Cranbourne Secondary but unfortunately our boys also lost in another quick set of matches. Well done boys for trying hard all day against quality opposition.

Intermediate NPD Interschool Sport

Tuesday 22nd August saw our Intermediate Sports Teams travel to various venues for their Term 3 Sports with some fantastic results. Students from Years 9 and 10 represented the College in Hockey, Basketball and Table Tennis.

Basketball - Coached by Mr Wakefield and Jessica Cox (Yr 11)

Our Basketballers had a very busy day playing against all six other schools in our Division. The girls had a great day winning four matches and only losing the two matches

Boys Hockey - coached by Mr Kaplon

The intermediate boys school hockey team achieved an outstanding outcome at Clayton Peninsula Campus showdown. Leading on goals, the team only narrowly missed out on first place after losing to Frankston High School in the last two minutes of the match. Congratulations to the Year 10 and Year 8 boys for their impressive achievement and performance on the day.

Boys Table Tennis - coached by Mr McIllwriath

We had five Year 9 Boys head out to Keysborough for Intermediate Boys Table Tennis last week and they showed some great skill throughout the day. The boys won a few matches and were competitive in all matches throughout the day finishing in 5th position.  Good work boys!
