We have a great new Careers portal designed for both students and parents. I’d really encourage you to bookmark the page on your family or personal computer, we will be doing the same with all the students.
Here you will find:
- calendar of career events
- parent menu of useful links
- secure student login where they can explore career interests, templates to write resumes & cover letters, update their career action plan and much more. Everything they do in this area is saved for them so they can access and modify it later
- links to getting tax file numbers, lodging your first tax return, job vacancies, course searching, defence forces, police careers, youth allowance, gap year and volunteering opportunities etc. etc.
Do you love working with computers, science and solving problems?
Have you considered studying data science? In our day and age we are using and storing massive amounts of data and this will only increase in the future. Data science fundamentally deals with how we will store and analyse data in the future.
The following has been taken from the Swinburne University website: “Data science is an opportunity to explore new kinds of data and new tools for processing it. You'll learn how to manipulate and process data in order to extract information and establish truths. Data science spans the use and processing of data across diverse fields, including modelling for supercomputing or astrophysics. Or you could work with metadata, a field that will require data to be processed in ways we’ve never even considered”.
Data Science is an exciting study area and there will be many jobs available in the future. You may consider studying data science at the following Victorian universities
- Bachelor of Computer Science (major in Data Science), Swinburne University, http://bit.ly/1Wmeaa1
- Bachelor of Computer Science (major in Big Data), RMIT, http://bit.ly/1QC3X56

In any of the Construction related fields (building, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, bricklaying, painting, concreting etc.) all people on site, including students on work experience, have to possess a CI Card (Construction Induction OH & S cert.).
The CI Card will cost $90 to complete and will be conducted at the school on Wednesday 15th March. If your child wishes to complete this they must collect the paperwork from Mr Crosbie in the SLC and return it by the end of February.
