Principal's Report

 Parents and Carers

I write at the end of what has been a challenging week for many of us. The current stage 4 lockdown in itself has meant an increasing amount of time at home and for many members of our school community the move to remote learning has not been easy. The school has aimed to provide a variety of easily accessible tasks to engage your child and improve their learning. This term we have aimed to increase the ways in which we have connected through whole class, small group and individual online meetings with students. We encourage parents to support your child to the extent that your family circumstances allow you to. The health and wellbeing of you and your children is our priority at this time.

Then, of course, we had the school closure that commenced last Friday. Many of your children, who were eligible to attend school, were unable to attend on-site and I acknowledge that this would have been difficult. For the school community, receiving information at 9pm also meant you were not able to plan for the following day. This was out of our control as  DET waited on advice each day from DHHS before notifying the school. DHHS and  DET have taken all precautions to ensure a safe environment for us all to work and learn in.

As I communicated to you in the DET letters sent this week, a student at the Watsonia Campus did test positive to COVID19. The campus was able to open on Wednesday once the contact tracing and cleaning of the campus were completed. The situation at the Bundoora Campus was more complex as it was believed that a student may have contracted the virus. The student was tested twice over several days and the results were negative. As a result, the Bundoora Campus will open to students tomorrow. I can assure you that both campuses were thoroughly cleaned in accordance with Covid19 Guidelines.

Many of our families have been sharing  photos of their child learning from home and they have been featured on the school Facebook page. We have had some fantastic photos of students painting, writing, drawing, cooking and engaging in physical activity. We are proud of the work our students are producing whether they are learning on-site or from home and we will keep supporting them to achieve their personal best.

It’s great to be back as Principal of Concord School and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Principal Award - Rin Okamoto

Rin Okamoto has been working really hard during remote learning. She comes prepared to all class webex meetings where she engages with her peers and presents the questions she has answered for her show and tell (so far she has shared her favourite TV show and her favourite food). She has also been joining the specialist webex meetings and she continuously shares her fabulous work that she has completed across all subject areas. Keep up the great work Rin and well done!
