R U OK? Day

Today, Thursday September 10th, 2020 is R U OK? Day. This is a national day of action “dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, ‘Are you OK?’ and support those struggling with life’s ups and downs.”

This year the challenge is to say more than, “Are you Okay?”.  We all understand that 2020 has been a very trying, eventful year for the whole world. We are all in a period of time where it is especially important to check in with others. Some of the most important things we can do to support our own wellbeing, and the wellbeing of others is to listen, share and show you care.  Here is a link to the website that discuss R U OK? Day 2020 in better detail and offers several resources.

Parenting Workshops

Anglicare Victoria has set up a few parenting workshops that are free of charge and will take place over Zoom if that is of interest for you. There is a workshop on talking to teens, one directed towards how dads can support children and one digging into emotion focused parenting.  As mentioned, all of these workshops are free of charge, but do require bookings. So, I encourage you to read through the flyers and mark your calendar for an enriching night of learning. All details are in the attachments below:

Thank you CHPS Community

As was noted the previous CHPS newsletter, I (Cheyenne) am saying goodbye to Croydon Hills Primary school at the end of next week. I have been so lucky and blessed to have been able to be a part of such an encouraging and hardworking team here at CHPS.

I started working here only two short months after I moved to Australia from the United States.  I cannot think of a better job to help introduce me to my life in Australia. The CHPS community has been so welcoming and supportive.  I have truly enjoyed working and growing alongside everyone here.  Thank you all for being so kind and hospitable to me over this past year.  I challenge everyone to keep up your regular meaningful conversations, to keep challenging yourself to listen deeply to one another, and to keep working toward restorative growth mindsets together.

I also just want to take a moment to acknowledge that we have all made it through a crazy time of change, isolation, frustration, and unknowing. This is so significant, and we have all learned and grown so much in this time.  I could not have grown nearly as much or coped nearly as well as I did if it wasn’t for the strength of this community, so thank you for experiencing this past year with me.
