Mental Health and Wellbeing

As we head into Term 3 holidays, take the time to be proud of all that you’ve accomplished in this challenging and difficult term. We hope that the holidays enable you to have a little space from school and work life, and instead be able to recharge and focus on your overall wellbeing. Whether we’re feeling good or we’re struggling, it is always important to make our mental health a priority.

Below are 10 top ways to improve your mental health and wellbeing:

  1. Get plenty of sleep – 9-10 hours for adolescents, 7-8 for adults
  2. Eat well – lots of fruit and veg, fresh grains, protein, dairy and little fat for good measure!
  3. Get plenty of fresh air – being outside each day can de-fuzz our brains from all that screen time
  4. Get plenty of sunlight – exposure to sunlight each day is known to improve mood
  5. Take breaks from social media – give your eyes a rest from all that needless scrolling
  6. Activity and exercise – whether it’s heart-racing cardio or a casual stroll, moving the physical body can also help to clear the mind
  7. Do something you enjoy – when a hobby is a passion, it’s fun to do every day!
  8. Connect with others – on zoom, social, or in real life!
  9. Do things for others – when we help others we feel better
  10. Ask for help – this is a strength, not a weakness! See support services below.
