As Term 3 comes to a close it is important that we acknowledge the challenges that all in the school and wider community have experienced over the last six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a time like no other in the memory of nearly every citizen of the world. Our hope is that things will return to normal as soon as possible. With that in mind arrangements for the resumption of school for Term 4 are as follows:

Week 1 (October 5th -9th)

Monday 5th & Tuesday 6th:

Remote Learning continues for all students.

On site supervision will be provided for essential limited circumstances in line with Department guidelines.

Wednesday 7th October:

GAT (on site) all students studying a Year 12 subject

Remote and On site learning for all others.

Thursday 8th October:

Student Free Day

Friday 9th October :

Student 'Catch Up' Day - No live sessions

Week 2 (October 12th-16th)

Monday 12th October:

Years 9-12 resume on all campuses.

Tuesday 13th October

This information has also been published on Compass and the GSSC website.

The Executive Principal team would like to acknowledge the exceptionally hard work of the teachers, Education Support staff, IT and administration teams over this period as well as the students who have engaged in Remote Learning. It has been challenging for all concerned but, like the weather, the outlook is improving daily.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

On line Parent Student Teacher Conferences were held during this past week via Teams. This was our first attempt at on line conferences and appears to have been very successful. We will be evaluating the conferences as part of our annual review process to see whether this could be a part of future conferences.

Subject Selections for 2021

Over the past several weeks subject selection for Years 8 to 9, 9 to 10, 10 to 11 and 11 to 12 has been on in earnest and we now have the data necessary to begin creating Timetables for each of the campuses. Thanks to all of those who were involved in working with the students  and parents to gather this data.

Long Service Leave

We would like to wish all those who have Long Service leave in Term 4 the best of luck. Hopefully the borders will begin to open up and allow them to get away. Both Ken Murray and Damian Townsend are on leave for the whole of Term 4 and a number of other teachers are on leave for shorter periods.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Cate Eddy who has recently been appointed as an Assistant Principal at Numurkah Secondary College. Cate has been a Neighbourhood leader at the Wanganui campus of GSSC this year and at WPSC for more than 20 years before that. True to her caring nature, Cate will take up her role at Numurkah SC in Term 4 but will continue to return to GSSC for part of each week, to teach her Year 12 class. We wish Cate all the best in her new role.

Finally, we hope that everyone in the wider GSSC community has a safe and happy holiday period.  We hope that everyone returns to onsite learning ready and willing to give their best.
