Principal's Update

As you can see we have a bumper newsletter issue. Many of our students have written honest accounts of how they have coped with learning remotely and for some it has been a significant challenge. However, the students mention strategies and ideas that have helped them through this term. The desire for our students  to work and learn in teams is very clear. I am very proud of our students as they have navigated  a different learning environment. Many students have thrived in this remote space.  It is not long until our senior school students return to face to face teaching at school. Our year 12 students have been magnificent completing their coursework remotely and working with their teachers using MS Teams for group discussions. I am looking forward to personally being able to speak to each student to wish them all the best for the exams and their future.

We have some wonderful student work in the newsletter and I am delighted to read the quality of the written work ranging from PE coaching to Art and Design. There is also great work from students in Maths using Minecraft, Medieval works and Book covers for the novel Once by Morris Gleitzman.Student/ Parent Transition Meetings

Year 7 2021 Transition Meetings

Instead of the traditional information sessions for primary school students and their parents held at the secondary school, myself and the transition team, over a 2 week period, went into every grade six class within our network, via WebEx.

We took part in transition to secondary school information sessions held recently via Webex with students from local primary schools, including Moorooduc Primary, Mornington Park, Mornington Primary, Benton Junior College, Mount Martha Primary and Osborne Primary School.

I felt that given current restrictions, it was still very important to not forget our up and coming young citizens and to maintain our valued, close relationships with their schools. The use of the WebEx meeting portal enabled the school to connect with whole grades of students while in their classrooms. Opportunities were also given for Q&A sessions with their parents.

I was so delighted to meet the year 6 students and together with the team we answered many of their questions. The students are excited about commencing secondary school next year and many of their questions focused on issues such as – "will I know anyone in my class, "how much homework will I have to do", "will I get into trouble if I am late for class", "what clubs and squads can I join and what will be on the canteen menu".  It has been a highly successful and engaging experience for all of us and it was especially lovely watching the students faces light up as they learnt about all of the opportunities available at the college.”

Return to School Term 4

Year 11 and 12 students and Year 10 students studying a VCE subject will return to face to face teaching.  Year 7 - 10 will remain learning remotely.

Wishing all of our families, our staff and our community my thanks for your ongoing support.

Have a safe and restful holiday break.
