News from Nurse Jess

Welcome back to what we can only hope will be a much smoother school year! The last couple of weeks I have been busy updating and collating all the medical information for your children to ensure our database is up to date.

One of the main tasks is ensuring we have current management plans for conditions such as Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Allergies and Epilepsy. These are vital documents that allow us to provide appropriate care for your child whilst at school. As per DET we require new plans every 12 months so that all information is current. If you are yet to provide me with an up to date plan I ask that you please do so as soon as you can. These can be dropped into the front office at any time.

This is also a timely reminder to please be mindful of the contents of your child’s lunchbox. We have numerous students who are anaphylactic to foods such as egg and peanuts. Although we encourage children not to share food this is just another way we can help minimise the risk by limiting the potential exposure to these allergens.

If there has been a change to your child’s condition or medications over the break that you would like me to be aware of then please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school or via email.

Thanks

Nurse Jess

Yarrabah SunSmart policy

Dear Parents/Carers,

Attached is our SunSmart policy. Please take the time to read through the document and ensure that students attend school with the appropriate sun protection.

Yarrabah’s school uniform and dress code includes sun-protective clothing, including:

  • loose, cool, closely-woven fabric
  • shirts with a collar
  • tops with elbow length or long sleeves
  • longer style shorts and skirts
  • rash vests or t-shirts for outdoor swimming activities.
  • All students and staff are required to wear hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. legionnaire, broad brimmed or bucket hats, whenever they are outside. Baseball or peak caps and visors are not considered a suitable alternative.
