Do It Yourself Environment Projects

Between our busy Home Learning schedules and everything else that fills our days, it’s not easy to find time for extra arts and crafts. But with school holidays upon us, we now have the opportunity to try some new things that can bring joy to our homes during this time of isolation.

Year 10 Environmental Studies students have enjoyed setting up My Aitken pages to encourage the community to participate in a variety of 'Do It Yourself' Environment Projects. Each with an environmental benefit, these projects are simple, fun and provide enjoyment even after you have constructed the project; for example, by attracting birds to your garden. If you are interested in getting your family involved with some easy DIY projects using common materials, please click HERE to visit the DIY Environment Projects My Aitken page and select an activity.

Wildlife Photos

Please remember to send through wildlife photos of close encounters to share on the Wildlife Show-n-Tell My Aitken page to cherron@aitkencollege.edu.au. It’s been fun seeing the variety of critters in our own back yards and keep making EcoBricks by collecting your soft plastics into plastic bottles with lids.

EcoBrick Update

I also want to update you on the Iso-EcoBrick initiative. Bottles of all shapes and sizes, stuffed full of soft plastics have been trickling in all year so I’m very excited about the structural possibilities before us. Hopefully we will have a few weeks of students on-site towards the end of Term 4, so we can share some ideas about what we want to build at Aitken with our Iso-EcoBricks. It will be great to have a long-lasting structure to commemorate how being apart this year has enabled us to make EcoBricks - which will later bring us together!

Here are a few snapshots of what happens in Environmental Studies.
