LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

Normally we would be busy celebrating Book Week this week but as with most things this year, it looks a little different. While Book Week has been moved to Week 2 of Term 4 (17-23 October 2020), we have begun reading the Shortlisted Books of the Year to see if we can predict who we think will win. Our plans for celebrating Book Week are still a ‘work in progress’ as they keep evolving when restrictions change. We will keep you posted!

K-2 are continuing to read stories from the Early Childhood category while Stage 2 are reading books from the Picture Book shortlist. 1/2W listened to 'Goodbye House, Hello House' by Margaret Wild and then drew some of their favourite things at their homes.

In Stage 3 we are learning how the judges make these decisions and about the criteria they must use when evaluating each category and entrant. Today 5/6PW read ‘Goodbye House, Hello House’ and ‘My Friend Fred’ using the judges’ criteria for Early Childhood books to rate them out of 100. It was an interesting experience to look at a story from a different perspective, evaluating its plot, characterisation, theme, conventions of writing, style, mood, design and illustrations. I wonder if we will get it right?

Premier’s Reading Challenge - ENDS THIS FRIDAY

Congratulations to some of our latest PRC reading superstars.

Break Times in the Library

Due to new Covid 19 restrictions, we now need to separate the days that different stages are able to come to the library at break times.

Monday - Stage 3

Tuesday - Library Closed

Wednesday - Stage 2

Thursday - Stage 3

Friday - Stage 2

Quick Bits

  • Congratulations to Dominic for celebrating his First Eucharist on the weekend, he enjoyed it so much, he brought his new bible along to read at the break today.
  • Some Stage 2 students have started a ‘Reading Club’ at break times, taking turns reading to their friends from the red chair. They’re doing such an amazing job that I think I’m becoming obsolete!
  • He’s back!!! Keep an eye out for Aaron Blabey’s latest Pig sequel, ‘Pig the Slob’. Out on the 1st September.

Happy reading,

Mrs Toni Fraser
