House News - Leonis

Hello everyone!

We hope each one of you are well, being stuck at home and doing remote learning has its ups and downs. Yes, it has been a stressful year especially for our VCE students but we are proud of each individual of how far we have come to this year.

We both miss being at school, and as House Captains we do miss greeting our Leonis peers in homerooms and telling them they have yard duty. We have missed many opportunities to have a role as House Captains but as leaders we would like to help those who are struggling to stay motivated by giving some advice and share some tips to help them feel motivated to finish this year on a high.

Remote learning can be very straining for a lot of us, sitting at a desk for longer periods of time. So it is very important to take breaks in between classes. Making sure you are not only staying physically fit and healthy but mentally healthy as well. Mental health is priority during this crisis we are stuck in, so if you are in need for someone to talk to, please reach out to our wonderful and trusted counsellors, a trusted guardian or friend, your House Coordinator or Learning Mentor.

If you are finding it difficult to stay motivated, you are not the only ones here. In our experiences, it can be a stressful time trying to stay motivated but here are some study tips to take into consideration:

-          Clearing out junk and organising notes, folders and books, is a great way to clear out your mind for the time period

-          Making a mistakes book, this method helps you to look over the mistakes you have made in previous tests or SACs to help you improve on your structure of your answers in order to achieve something great in your upcoming tests!

-          Remember that studying can be challenging,  studying may not be easy but the pleasure to see where you began and finished. Gives you great satisfaction, always focus on the outcome and not the struggle to get there.

The most important thing is good organisation and time management, it is vital for you to be able to have a clear set up for all the tasks that need completing and when they need submitting. With the use of an appropriate task management strategy, finding motivation to complete tasks becomes so much easier and manageable. Work can become overwhelming sometimes and it is tempting to just ignore it and worry about it later, but with this strategy your work will become more manageable and more achievable.

Another important aspect to maintain your level of motivation during times like this, is a good balance between work and fun. Sometimes a distraction from your workload can be a good thing, if we become overwhelmed by it, we can often find it really hard to get the motivation to continue working. So, take a break, go outside, call a friend, schoolwork is important, but your mental health should come first.

We hope these tips help someone out and we are wishing you all the best. Hope to see you all at school soon.

Sincerely, Christie Ben and Sebastian Romero
