Reconciliation Week
2020 Reconciliation Australia marks twenty years of shaping Australia’s journey towards a more just, equitable and reconciled nation.
Today we work together to further that national journey towards a fully reconciled country.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
On this journey, Australians are all In This Together; every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.
All students at Newlands have had an opportunity to participate in activities this week which are aimed at giving them an understanding of Aboriginal culture.
Our school has made a commitment to developing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). A working party has begun planning how we will develop the plan. We plan to to give all members of our school community an opportunity to play an active role in its' development.
COVID restrictions have meant that we will need to change the timeline for the development of our RAP. We will inform the community as soon as new arrangements are put into place.
We have included resources to share with your family to learn more about about Aboriginal culture in this week's newsletter.
A reconciled Australia is one where our rights as First Australians are not just respected but championed in all the places that matter …”
