PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

STUDENT LEADERSHIP
One of the most pleasant tasks of the year is interviewing applicants for positions of senior leadership.
As well as having to meet the specific criteria set for each position, all students must be able to demonstrate the following skills and attributes necessary for leaders at St Joseph’s College:
- Communication Skills
- Role Model and Ambassador (Loyalty to the College)
- Good Study Habits and Organisational Skills
- Team Work and Collaborative Skills
At St Joseph’s College, leadership is an important part of student learning. We believe that all students have the potential to demonstrate leadership, whether or not they hold an official position in the school. Leadership is not a responsibility confined to those who wear a badge, but is shared by all students and staff. Our goal at the College is for students to understand that what constitutes ethical and effective leadership and to assess their own ability to be more confident and able to provide leadership when it is required.
For 2020…
We are pleased to announce Ellie Scott and William Rodgers as the College Captains. I would also like to congratulate Alexandra Marwood and William Forrest on their appointment as the College Vice Captains.
These fine young men and women understand that to be a leader one should create positive and substantial change in small, every day ways. In 2020 they will have the opportunity to prove that the concept of true leadership is inspired by integrity of heart and faith and accountable, responsible stewardship.
Congratulations and well done Ellie, Will, Alex and Will, we are very proud of you. Thank you to all those who have assisted and inspired you on your journey to this point in time.
FATHER'S DAY BREAKFAST
AFL great Wayne Schwass was our guest speaker at the recent Father’s Day breakfast. Since his retirement he has set up the advocacy group Puka Up to help others who suffer from depression and mental health issues.
In a heartfelt speech, Wayne shared his personal battle of mental illness, along with the stigma surrounding mental health. It was his open and honest communication that gave Wayne the support and resolution to start the long journey of getting his life back.
“Wayne was a fantastic speaker. The audience was so captivated and motivated by his story. A bit of humour involved in his delivery also helped to lighten the mood and relax the audience. Our parents, staff and students found Wayne’s story incredibly brave, motivating and inspiring, which has encouraged others to speak out on mental health/wellbeing and approach certain life challenges differently.”
God bless,
Mrs Marg Blythman
