Suzanne Cory Twilight Fair

Suzanne Cory High School's inaugural Twilight Fair was the culmination of many months of planning from students and staff, and a fantastic display of school spirit and pride! With sold-out student-run stalls (including a Cupcake Stall, Soda Stream Station, and Slurpy Machine), live musical performances, chess demonstrations and board games, and pizza and gelato trucks, the night was a overwhelming success, with over 500 students, friends, and family members in attendance.

A tremendous thank you to all the student groups who ran stalls (including Eco Core, SCHS Musicals, the Social Justice Group, the Chess Club, Careers Baristas, and the Taekwondo Team), as well as to all the staff and students who pitched in and helped on the night - we couldn't have done it without you! And of course, thank you to the wonderful Suzanne Cory community for attending; we hope you had a cracking night, and we'll see you again in 2019!

Earlier this Term, Mr Taig had the pleasure of touring the University of Melbourne Engineering facilities. The university is building two new engineering precincts at Fishermans Bend (for large scale engineering projects) and the former Royal Women’s Hospital site (for Parkville students).

The University offers a wide range of engineering facilities. Even within the Bachelor of Science, students can use workshops to prototype and create designs. Some of the students were working to design new drones that could be deployed in emergency situations, such as collapsed buildings. Another group of students were preparing two race cars (petrol and electric) in Formula SAE against other universities. Each year a new car is designed and built from scratch by students.

Mr Taig’s highlight of the tour was using the Computer Aided Rehabilitation Environment, a giant treadmill/VR system that measures forces in your body. Mr Taig controlled a VR boat using motion capture. Adding to the experience, the treadmill changed it’s gradient to simulate the waves.
