NZ Work Shadow Project

Update
Kia ora (hello)
I am half way through the second week of the New Zealand Work Shadowing Project. I am really privileged to be involved in this super exciting learning experience.
It is amazing how similar the schools I have visited in Christchurch are to LNPS. The students, staff and families who I have met have been unbelievably welcoming. It is devastating to see the impact that the earthquake has had on schools and the city. The earthquake was 8 years ago and many schools are still being rebuilt or have parts of the school closed waiting to be rebuilt. The resilience of the school community is exceptional as they manage with limited issues.
The cultural inclusivity I have experienced has been mind blowing. The Maori culture is fully embedded into every school I have visited and it is really exciting to learn about how schools have undertaken this approach.
This week I had the pleasure of teaching a Maths Workshop with Year 7/8 ( our 6/7). This was a great learning experience and very challenging. Beckenham School is using similar approaches to teaching Maths as LNPS.
Today I have visited Linwood Avenue School. It has been a fascinating day as the school is still in damage mode and many learning spaces are closed off. This has not stopped teachers and students being involved in high quality learning. Linwood has a large focus on ICT using the G-Suite like LNPS and it is amazing to see many similarities.
Another key learning experience has been around how much schools promote students to take risks in the yard during play time and with their learning. Last week was quite cold and it was amazing to see how many students had their shoes and socks off and were playing in the mud pit and the puddles on the oval!
I hope everyone is well back at LNPS. I am missing the warmer weather and wearing my shorts!
