Reflection

This photo has many elements for consideration and discussion but of particular interest is the reflection obtained by having the correct conditions at the right time.  What were the conditions that allowed for the image below? The right levels of tannin in the water to provide a dark background, still weather conditions on the surface which allowed for the mirror effect, and a beautiful sunny day.

Reflection gives an opportunity for us all to stop and pause amidst the complexity and chaos we might experience.  It allows for patience, contemplation and learning. Reflection is careful thought that can allow for making of meaning and purpose which is essential for growth and development.

When we ask students to reflect on a piece of work it helps them learn. They can consider elements such as how much effort they put in, what concepts or ideas they have garnered, what they can improve. It supports a growth mindset and encourages student to improve and learn from mistakes.

A good set of questions for students to ask themselves include:

  • What did I accomplish today?
  • What was something new I learned?
  • What do I need to learn more about?
  • What were my emotions/feelings when learning that?
  • What am I interest in learning next?

Building Project Year 3-6 Building and Specialist Spaces

Although the building is taking longer to complete than expected, progress is being made and it will be completed by the end of the year for use by students in 2023. Some progress photos are shown below and the spaces are looking exciting.

Welcome

We welcome a number of new families and students over the past week from Colmont School which sadly closed its doors last week.  This will have been a difficult time for all concerned but as some have been able to join the Aitken Community we will support and welcome those students and parents who have joined us.
