Year 12 PDHPE Camp - Melbourne & Ballarat
HSC PDHPE students spent the first three days of the term immersing themselves in aspects of elite sport and what is takes to be the best of the best. The camp aimed to assist students with relevant examples and consolidate their understanding of concepts in the lead up to their Trial Examinations.
The first stop was Carlton Football Club, where students were provided with a tour of the new facilities and discussed the life of players Brodie Kemp and Charlie Curnow. It was fantastic to hear about their training schedules throughout the year, injury management and how their performances are tracked and monitored throughout the season.
Next stop was Federation University, looking at all things Sport Science. Students were lucky enough to witness Dylan Scoble complete a VO2 Max and Lactate test, achieving an impressive Fed Uni student record of 71.8 mL/kg/min. Students were then able to analyse his lactate levels throughout the test and how this would influence his future performance and training. Students visited the Strength and Conditioning lab, where they utilised a velocity metre to predict a power set and a 1RM on a barbell bench press.
To round out a great day students had the opportunity to test out Ballarat Clarendon College's rowing tank, witnessing the assistance that advancements in technology can have on training.
A visit to Radford Athletic Development (RAD Centre) was the final activity on camp. Students met Chris and the team from RAD Centre who put them through their paces in a strength and conditioning class and discussed the holistic approach they take with training their athletes, including strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, physiotherapy and diet.
A huge thank you to the Carlton Football Club, Federation University, Clarendon College and RAD Centre for putting these amazing experiences together for our students.
