Secondary Sport

QGSSSA Hockey

Our hockey teams had a bye for Round 3, but are keen to score some goals with a mix of youth and experience to seal a result against Ipswich Girls’ Grammar in Round 4 this weekend.

QGSSSA Netball

Our netballers had a great morning on the Gold Coast playing against St Hilda’s.

The Senior A team for Clayfield had a fantastic game with many seamless passes and great cohesion amongst the team. Standout performances from Jasmine Barnett, whose shooting was very precise and rarely missed. Well supported in the goal circle by Mackenzie Robbins and Matilda Fenn. The final score of 39-18 to Clayfield College.

The Senior B game was a lot closer than the final score line of 24-9 indicated. Kate Beavis led the team from the front and played wonderful defence. The Senior B team is demonstrating improvement every week and enjoying the game, which we believe is a key aim of the QGSSSA competition.

QGSSSA Tennis

It was an early morning for Round 3 of winter fixtures, with games starting at 8:00 am against St Hilda’s on the Gold Coast.

Both the Opens and Senior A teams had hard-hitting matches with only three players available to play in each, which meant one game of singles and doubles were forfeited. Other than this, all girls tried their best. However, it ended with Opens going down 36-2 and the Senior A team scoring a loss of 36-3.

The Junior A girls also played their fixtures at The Southport School against St Hilda’s. They were defeated, however, gameplay and tactics in the doubles has greatly improved, which has been acknowledged by our coaching team. This week, we will be taking on Ipswich Girls’ Grammar on our home courts.

QGSSSA Volleyball

It was an early and cold start to Round 3 of QGSSSA volleyball which saw our players bussed at 6:15 am to the Gold Coast, where they met St Hilda’s.

There were five games scheduled, the first being the Senior A’s and Year 8 teams at 8:00 am. The teams didn’t record wins; however, it isn’t all bad news. The Senior A team, under a new coach, battled to take a set off St Hilda’s but went down 1-2 in a well-fought match.

The Year 8s, 9s and Opens team went down 3-0, while playing hard to take a set. The teams left feeling disappointed but will reset at training and aim for a win this week.

All teams have been training hard in preparation to face Ipswich Girls’ Grammar in a home game round this Saturday. Hopefully, we will see many of the teams take their first win. Go Clayfield!
