Feast Of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Mary was born in Melbourne but was best known for establishing a number of schools and welfare institutions throughout Australasia (Australia and New Zealand), with an emphasis on education for the rural poor. Mother Mary was canonised a Saint in 2010 and is formally known as St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
Mary’s motto was “Never see a need without doing something about it”.
Like many schools in the bush, the Sisters established St Joseph’s Warialda in 1904. Sister Mary Ellen O’Donoghue told the congregation at the Sisters Thanksgiving Mass that three Sisters, Srs Camillus, Berchmans and a postulant, opened St Joseph’s on Monday 11th July 1904. As there are no longer Sisters present in town it is important that their legacy continues well into the future.
Two of the three founding Sisters are buried in Warialda Cemetery.
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
St Joseph's will be attending the parish Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Monday the 15th of August. Mass will take place at 12 noon in the church.
The feast of the Assumption of Mary is a Holy day of Obligation. It is our belief that on this day Mary rose into heaven, body and soul. The celebration of this feast day will also relate to the Religion units we have been teaching in class.
God bless you and keep you safe.
