Year 7, 8 & 12 English

Year 7 English - Runner
On Thursday, 28th July, Robert Newton, the author of the current Year 7 English novel Runner, came to address all the students.
He explained his planning and writing process for the story, as well as giving a lot of background on why the idea of friendship and loyalty is so important in his novel.
Along the way, we also learned about how he is a firefighter as well as an author and loves telling stories.
Year 8 English - Sway
On the 14th July Nicholas J. Johnson came to our school and discussed with all of year 8 students, the different ways of persuading people.
These were Pathos (persuading by using emotions) logos (persuading using logic) and ethos (persuading by establishing credibility). He explained this in a very creative way by doing magic tricks.
All of year 8 thoroughly enjoyed it.

Year 12 VCE English Excursion Image - ACMI Comparing Texts Excursion
On 2nd August, our year 12 English cohort had the privilege of attending ACMI in the city to watch the film “Pride” and sit in a lecture on comparing the film to the popular memoir “I Am Malala”.
The lecture provided an insight into the elements that distinguish both texts and enabled our Year 12s to begin preparing for their final SAC as they reach the finishing line of their secondary school experience.
Overall, the day was a big success and the students later treated themselves to a well-deserved delicious lunch.
