Understanding Pathways

When we refer to Student Pathways, we are initially discussing the journey each student can take throughout their secondary education and beyond into tertiary education and future employment.

There are many examples of pathways, as individual as each student - but a general example is provided below. The key message here is that while not all students aspire to, or are ready to complete a scored VCE (ATAR), this in no way means that they aren’t guaranteed future success or opportunities in their studies or careers.

In the simplified example below, we show how a student’s senior secondary pathway will generally articulate into their post-secondary (Tertiary) pathway.

The bonus of the Australian Qualifications Framework means that anyone firstly completing a Certificate or Diploma level qualification, can articulate into a higher level of study (such as a Bachelor’s Degree) using their knowledge and skills already learned. For example, a student firstly completing a Diploma level course after completing Year 12 can, in most cases, move into a bachelor’s degree qualification with credit, along with the added benefit of gaining significant vocational experience.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the Pathways Coordinator at the College, if you would like to discuss the above, or with options for planning your individual child’s pathway.

Attached please also find our regular Careers Corner Newsletter, which provides up to date information on tertiary providers and career planning opportunities to discuss with your child. The first article explains VET (Vocational Education) and how this can be studied within the VCE. This newsletter has also been issued to all students in Years 9-12.
