A Message from David & Cam...

100 Days of School!!

On Tuesday, our wonderful Prep students and their teachers celebrated 100 days of school! We are so proud of the Prep students and all that they have achieved in their first 100 days of school. They are a fantastic group of students who are all like KEFAR!

The whole day was filled with a range of fun activities, games and celebrations! There were some fantastic costumes and we thank the parents and carers for their support with this. It was also wonderful to see the students and parents/carers working together in the last session to make glasses and a headband with 100 dots on them!

Congratulations Preps (and Prep Teachers)!!

Sports Field Update

We are so close to getting this done! Our aim is to redevelop the basketball courts and area between the courts and the gym (see pic below) to include multisports fields with synthetic turf which include a running track, basketball & netball courts, soccer pitch,  and mini tennis courts (see sample photo below). This will be a great improvement for our school grounds and provide wonderful facilities to promote and support the physical development of our students.

With the amazing fundraising efforts over the past few years combined with the fundraising done this year, we are getting really close to reaching our financial target and being in a position to get the project underway. Unfortunately, the cost of the project has risen recently due to some additional work that needs to be completed in the preparation of the space and this has made the financial gap wider than what we were initially aiming for.

To bridge this gap, we have been reaching out for potential sponsorship opportunities. If you are aware of any organisations that may be interested in supporting us to reach our goal, please contact us. We would like to explore as many options as possible. The other way to support us is to continue to support all of our fundraising activities. We have a number of activities planned and any support you can provide is greatly appreciated.

We are working really hard to get the project underway as soon as possible. We desperately would like to get this done before the end of the year so our Year 6 cohort can have an opportunity to enjoy the new sports field. The families of Year 6 students have supported our fundraising efforts for a number of years and we would love nothing more than them having the chance to enjoy what we have been working towards!

Thanks for your continued support.

Curriculum Day

Last Friday, our staff had a very productive day focused on our student wellbeing priorities. The staff spent the day reviewing and revising aspects of our whole school wellbeing programs, including School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS) and Be Like KEFAR. We have begun reviewing our documents, practices and procedures with the aim of ensuring clear, consistent expectations across our whole school. We will continue this process in the near future and will share this information across our community when it is finalised.

The staff also spent time unpacking the Attitudes to School Survey Data to develop an understanding of the students' experiences and how they feel whilst at our school. The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual survey from the Department of Education that all students in years 4-12 complete and provides valuable insights into student perspectives of school and forms an important part of our annual implementation plans.

AGPS Podcast

One of the lunchtime clubs that has been running recently has been podcasting. Ainsley, along with a very dedicated group of students from years 4-6, have spent many lunchtimes planning and creating the very first AGPS Podcast! The first episode launched on 22/7 via Podbean - https://agpspodcast.podbean.com/ and the students have received excellent feedback about the episode. They have been busy creating episode 2 and this will be released in the near future. All future podcasts will be released and sent to all students via Seesaw.

We would like to congratulate Ainsley and the Podcasting team for their efforts with this project. It is wonderful to see such commitment and enthusiasm from the team and we look forward to hearing what they come up with next!

Additional Pupil Free Day

As mentioned earlier this week, we have scheduled an additional pupil free day on the 29th August so we are able to provide all teachers with their allocated Professional Practice Day (PPD). Whilst our first preference was to provide individual teachers with their PPD on different days so we did not need to use an additional pupil free day, it has continued to be incredibly challenging to cover teachers with the continuing chronic shortage of casual teachers across the state. TeamKids is available for all day care on this day.

Year 1 Excursion

On Tuesday our Grade 1 students enjoyed an excursion to the Botanic Gardens as part of their inquiry unit ‘Backyard Safari’. The students thoroughly enjoyed participating in a learning session called 'Minibeasts'. As can be seen from the photos, our students explored and investigated a range of mini creatures and were certainly interested, engaged and curious about the mini creatures that they encountered. The teachers were thrilled to report that our students demonstrated their KEFAR Values and represented our school wonderfully well. Well Done Grade 1!

2023 Preps

If you, or anyone you know, have a child that will be starting prep at AGPS in 2023, please contact us to let us know as this greatly assists us with planning.

We are also offering school tours in Term 3 for any parents that would like to visit the school and find out more about what we can offer their child.
