University of Melbourne Excursions

In recent weeks, Year 12 Chemistry and Year 12 Biology students visited the University of Melbourne to participate in Outreach Programs.

At the School of Chemistry, students used an array of instruments to confirm the identify of some unknown organic molecules. They interpreted and analysed data from mass spectrometry, infra-red spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

At the Department of Genetics the Biology students examined fruit flies for genetic traits and performed an ELISA array to test samples for influenza.
