P15 Learning and Growing

We are enjoying another successful year in the Gratitude Garden. We are growing many vegetables: carrots, potatoes, broccoli, spring onion, spinach, kale, peas, beans, cauliflower and herbs. We are also growing strawberries. Later in the year we will plant tomatoes, cucumber and pumpkin.

We have been learning about planting, growing seasons and how to naturally deter bugs from eating our vegetables.

The children enjoy many different aspects of the garden. From planting and maintaining the garden to insect investigations. The most popular part of the Gratitude Garden is definitely the Worm Farm Cafe. The children enjoy collecting fruit scraps from class compost bins to fill up the worm farm. We then collect the worm juice from the worm farm taps to fertilise the garden.

We are investigating environmental sustainability and protection. It is important for the children to know where their food comes from and how to grow it. We are so excited that we have seen our first snow peas this week. We can’t wait to eat them!

We are looking forward to picking all of our vegetables and making vegetable soup at the end of the year.

The children have a great sense of pride and achievement with the garden.

Great Job Team!!
