Term 3 Begins

Leadership Report

And just like that... we're back into the swing of things! It's hard to believe that we're at the end of the second week of learning for the term, as our end of term 2 break seems a distant memory now. While our students and families enjoyed a bonus day of holiday time last Monday, our staff were engaged here on site in Literacy Professional Learning provided by the Primary English Teachers Association of Australia. It was a fantastic day of consolidating our current practices, learning and being inspired by new resources with the main focus on our writing improvement work supported by model texts.

Currently, our teachers are in the midst of providing Learning Conversations for students and families. These are an important opportunity to discuss your child's learning journey, to gain a deeper understanding of the recent mid-year report and to ascertain how you can support your child from home. Learning Conversations are both a celebration of the successes and an opportunity to discuss challenges and goals for learning. It's important to support your child with their learning journey, because it is a journey. Goals may not be realised in the immediate school term, and valuable intervention may not be seen immediately, but as more pieces of the learning puzzle are consolidated. That 'a-ha!' moment may take longer for some than others, but when it does it's important to celebrate the hard work and perseverance that has taken place.

Life is a journey, and so is education - academically, socially and emotionally. At Magill School, we take pride in being with your child and family for the long haul, the journey from Reception to Year 6. Learning Conversations build our connectedness with families and students to ensure that we are working together for the best outcomes possible for your child. I'm reminded of this in particular this week as I meet with the local High Schools as they begin to build their transition program. The wealth of knowledge that we as a school have accumulated is insurmountable. We know how your child learns best, how to ignite the fire within to inspire them to achieve. It's important that wherever possible we pass on these valuable insights and support students not only to the end of their journey with Magill School, but as they step into uncharted waters of High School.

If you're yet to book a time for a Learning Conversation with your child's teacher - please contact them and make a time. No child is too old, in fact, your adolescent child needs you now more than ever.

Looking ahead in the calendar, Term 3 is full of buzz and excitement to come - with camps, STEM Week, Book Week, Sports Day and much more to come. We can't wait to share it all with you!
