Dear Parents/Guardians,

Blurbs

We have an exciting Book Week lined up this year with a costume parade, performance for P-2 and the Blurbs band. The Blurbs are a band of book enthusiasts who encourage children to read through the power of performance and music. The Blurbs rarely venture out of the library, but when they do, they put on a spectacular show for primary schools during Book Week. The show contains original songs about the books that have been short listed by the CBCA for the 'Book of the Year' awards.

Younger siblings of current students are also welcome to attend (with a parent) for a sing and dance at this whole school event.

Funding Grant

I am pleased to announce that we were successful in a 'schools upgrade' fund application for an outdoor learning space to the value of $25 000. Lisa Chesters (MP) will be visiting our school next Thursday at 10:00 am to discuss the project.

Uniform

Uniform items have begun to arrive at the Noone in Bendigo. The items currently available include puffer jackets, vests, tracksuit pants, shorts and skorts.

Below are the items that are still in production:

Dress – Due September

Skirt & Bib – Due September

Polo – Short Sleeve & Long Sleeve - Due in 3-4 weeks (possibly earlier)

Windcheater – Due in 3-4 weeks (possibly earlier)

Hats & Bags – Due in 2-3 weeks (possibly earlier)

You will notice that the new jackets and pants contain our school emblem only - the three pillars and star. This is so that students can get more wear out of jackets on weekends or for sporting teams etc.

We have included a new 'hybrid' hat that is half-way between a broad brimmed and a bucket. After a number of requests, there is also now an Epsom school bag.

The skirt now has a pinafore attachment to help keep students warmer on cold days. A white shirt is also available for purchase but should only be worn with this item.

Parent Involvement

At Epsom PS, we firmly believe that parent involvement plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment for our students. As part of our commitment to the development of an inclusive and strong school community, a parent group is being created to help foster social connection, the generation of ideas and the general support of each other as parents. Areas of involvement might include listening to reading in the mornings, helping with sustainability, sporting events, special days or even just having a cuppa and a chat. We would love to see your face as a regular fixture around the school.

Just a reminder, that parents who would like to be involved in school events (excursions, classrooms, special days etc.) will need to obtain a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our students. This is a requirement for any volunteer work at the school. It is a simple process that can easily be completed online.

Road Safety

I have had some feedback from the community, that students from our school are crossing at the lights as soon as the green man is illuminated - rather than waiting for the crossing supervisor's permission to proceed. If your child uses the lights in the morning, please discuss the safety aspects of listening to the crossing supervisors. Not all cars stop at a red light!

When dropping students in the drive through, they must walk to the gate at the end and not the main one at the front. Please do not park across the drive through exit to drop off as this will cause frustration for other parents and a greater chance of an accident.

Staff Leaving

Mr Davey has attained his teaching qualification and will be leaving us to pursue his new career. We would like to thank him for his work over the past seven years in his Education Support role and wish him the best in this new adventure.

Sally Livermore has also left us after five years in her student wellbeing role. Sally has been an integral part of student support and I know that you will join me in thanking her for her commitment over the years. We wish her the best in the next chapter of her life.

Have a great weekend.
