Physical Education News

As Term 2 concludes in the coming weeks, it's the perfect time to look back on all the sporting adventures we've had this year so far. May these experiences continue to foster a love for movement and an appreciation for the invaluable benefits of staying active. Our students have truly shown their interests and skills through the awesome additions we've made to our playground equipment!

We've seen a surge in popularity for basketball, netball, cricket football, soccer, totem tennis, and now volleyball. These games have become absolute favourites during playtime. And let's not forget the gaga pit - it's been a massive hit. The introduction of the gaga pit has been met with immense enthusiasm, captivating and engaging numerous children in active play.

But here's something interesting: amidst all the new equipment, some old classics are making a comeback. Skipping ropes and hoops, eagerly borrowed during every recess and lunch break, clearly demonstrate that the old adage of "oldies are goodies" holds true. One can't help but wonder if we may witness a revival of elastics or hopscotch in the near future.

And it's not just about organized sports. Our students are staying active and having a blast everywhere they go. Even in our welcome garden, they're busy balancing, chasing, and even pumping water. It's all about being active and enjoying the great outdoors!

As we conclude Term 2, let us celebrate the joyous spirit of sportsmanship and the remarkable dedication our students demonstrate in embracing physical activity.

Sam Judd; Team Vic, U12 Cricket:

Sam Judd, a talented and determined student from our school, is currently making waves in the U12 National Championships in Darwin as he proudly represents Victoria. With his love for the game and dedication to training, Sam has become a standout player, even scoring an impressive 50 runs in his very first game. His amazing skills, smart thinking, and awesome teamwork have earned him a well-deserved spot in this top-notch tournament. Sam is a true inspiration to his friends and a shining example of sportsmanship. The entire school community is buzzing with pride and excitement, eagerly awaiting his next incredible performance. We're cheering Sam on and wishing him the best of luck in all his adventures on the field! We can’t wait for him to return to Melbourne and tell us all about his experience.

Cross Country:

The Glen Iris District Cross Country event on 23rd May showcased an awe-inspiring display of running ability as students bravely conquered the course at Nettleton Park. Each participant dug deep within themselves to push beyond their limits and their determination and resilience shone through as they overcame fatigue. With every step, they showcased unwavering perseverance and found hidden stores of strength, running right through to the finish line with a smile! Their inspiring performance serves as a shining example to our school community, reminding us all of the power of perseverance and the incredible things we can achieve when we believe in ourselves. We are thrilled to announce that some of our talented athletes advanced to the Division race, and from there, are now preparing for the Regional race! Their dedication, hard work, and outstanding performance have propelled them to new heights, representing our school with pride. We wish them the best of luck as they continue to inspire us all with their incredible achievements. Keep running towards your dreams!

Volleyball

This term we are learning more about Net and Wall sports through Volleystars and Volleyball. We have been fortunate enough to have Narene from Serva to come to help with some of our lessons as a part of the Sport Schools Grant initiative. Keep your eyes open for a volleyball net if you are heading away for the holidays - who knows, you might be able to show off your skills. You can even dust off those home nets you might have bought during lockdowns, or just blow up a balloon on a rainy day for a game of ‘keepy uppy’ to practise those volleyball skills!
