Year 11 students Bess, Lily and Tajwyn, over the holidays, completed the life changing 8 day Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea. The annual educational experience is made available to local scholarship winners through the generous donations of local sponsors.
The students, after following the footsteps of East Gippslanders during World War 2, have a new understanding around the challenges that were faced . The students now become Kokoda Ambassadors for 12 months.
Bess, Lily and Tajwyn as part of their Ambassadors roles attended ABC Radio for a interview to speak about their journey.
The best experience with the most amazing people. I feel so grateful to have been part of this beautiful and emotional experience. The best thing I have ever done, and I have made the best of friends. I am so proud and grateful to have walked the Kokoda Trail.
The stories and memories we have will be with us forever – unforgettable. An adventure of a lifetime. Anyone who has the chance to do it or apply, go for it! The history of Kokoda is so important for our youth and hiking this emotional trail holds such a big part of keeping our history alive! - Bess
Congratulations to Bess, Lily and Tajwyn on completing the Kokoda Trail. Amazing!!

This week all Year 10-12 students participated in Be Wise Education Program presented by the Pat Cronin Foundation. This presentation was made possible by a very generous donation from the following community groups:
A huge thank you to our School Nurse Sophie and Carina Turner, a member from Sunrise Rotary Bairnsdale, who made the presentation possible.
The Pat Cronin Foundation was established after Pat Cronin, a 19 year old was killed by a single coward punch while helping a mate being attacked. Pat's story is an illustration of what can happen when young people are faced with violence, and how wiser choices can be made.
Be wise let's end the coward punch.

All Year 10 students participated in the Tomorrow Man/Woman incursion this week.
Tomorrow Woman - aspires to reignite girls and women around Australia with their innate voice, empowering them to confidently express their needs and opinions in the moments that matter.
Tomorrow Man facilitates workshops for boys. We explore how we can look after ourselves, our mates and families better while carving out our own version of the Aussie man.
We have had fabulous feedback about these seminars and are looking forward to their visit next year.
On Wednesday July 19th the Year 12 Biology class travelled up to Melbourne University where they took part in Bioscience workshops related to their Unit 4 Outcomes. They tracked the evolution of characteristics of fruit flies and then ran through the method to test patients for antibodies against the flu virus.
It was a great opportunity to see the labs in a university as well as interacting with current staff and students at the university and the ability to ask them questions about different courses and university life in general. On top of that they enjoyed a couple of hours free time exploring the shops as we waited for our train back to Bairnsdale.
Campbell Sanderson represented our College in the Cross Country State Championship in Melbourne. Campbell ran at an outstanding time of 19.44 minutes for his 5 km race. Overall, he came 54th out of 93. Well done Campbell!
Year 12 students enjoyed the last day of Term 2 wearing their PJ's and Oodies to school. They also enjoy a breakfast roll from the canteen.
VM students as part of their studies prepared some home cooked meals and donated them to our local Neighbourhood House. The students also helped to tidy up the gardens surrounding Neighbourhood House.
Our Year 10 Foods For You students have been busy in the 'kitchen' making Chicken Souvlaki with Naan and three cheese caramelised pull apart .
Year 11 VCE Food Studies students have been exploring the delicious flavours of international foods. Last week they made Indian style style fish cakes with quick mango chutney, Spicy onion and pea bjajis and Mediterranean risotto.
