Principal's Message
The well-deserved break is here. The evenings and the mornings feel colder than ever, and the memory of warm autumn days is well and truly in the past.
As always, MGSC has been a busy hive of activity right up until the final week.
The exams for Years 9 to 11 have taken place, and this will be one of the final assessments to be included in the end of semester reports. It was terrific to see the students take the exams seriously and prepare earnestly for them. This is excellent preparation for the future.
Carol Duggan has just returned from an International Student Recruitment Trip to Japan and South Korea with the International Education Division. We have had a thriving International Student Program at our college over many years and the benefit to the school community is that it broadens our global perspective immensely. During the past three years the International Student Program across the State has diminished due to border restrictions. Victoria is now encouraging international students to return to government schools.
The Year 10 students undertook their Work Experience week to start Semester 2. This is an invaluable program that introduces students to the world of work and can provide them with insights into career options for the future. Our teachers really enjoyed the opportunity to visit the students in their workplaces too. My thanks to Simone Bouchier, the Careers Advisor for all her work and to the teachers for visiting our students.
On Wednesday 21 June we held the Subject Selection Information evening for Year 9 students going into Year 10 and Year 10 students going into Year 11. My thanks to Simone Bouchier, Jackie Mathews, Sylvia Christopoulos, Carol Duggan, Hayley Dureau and Dylan Reeves who have been working behind the scenes and up front to provide these invaluable information sessions.
Six of our students will be working with be travelling to Sydney to compete in the Lego Robotics Nationals and we wish them well. They have been working with William Verimieff as part of the Robotics club and will be travelling with their parents to Sydney. William Murphy will be the staff supervisor at the event. The students representing the college are Taliah O'Quely, Harper Jekot, Millie Bennett, Elsa Yu, Parnian Mellat and Grace Liu.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break.
Best wishes
Linda Brown
