From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

The end of a busy Term is approaching rapidly, and this is a great opportunity to reflect with your school-aged children about all the learning achievements they have reached so far this year.  This is also an opportunity to ponder what we might be grateful for through our experiences at St Simon’s.  One of the key messages shared through our school partnership with The Resilience Project is the importance of practising gratitude and building a grateful heart to help contribute to our sense of resilience.  In our Catholic context, we are encouraged to be thankful to God and to each other, for the gifts and life we have.

Car Park and Road Safety

Safety for everyone coming and going from our school site is the highest priority.  We constantly review safety practices used to maximise the safety of all people on the school site.

Of late, the following alarming behaviours related to the car park and student drop off\pick up have been observed by school staff and community members and reported to the school office.

  • Double parking on Taylors Lane between Gates 4 and 3 to allow students to exit the footpath
  • Students are entering cars waiting on Taylor's Lane to turn right into Gate 4.
  • Ignoring the KEEP CLEAR area near the school crossing.
  • Car speeds in the car park faster than walking pace.
  • Use of the Disabled Parking without the required permit.

Everyone is responsible for ensuring that we safely move to and from the school site by obeying the road rules, following carpark signage and following the directions of school staff on car park duty.

Next Term, I will announce some measures we will take to enhance the safety of the drop off\pick up lane within the main school carpark.

School Reports Semester One via Nforma Portal

Semester One school reports will be distributed to families next week via our digital assessment platform, Nforma.  The day of distribution is scheduled for Thursday 22nd June.  All families are asked to monitor their inboxes for emails containing the link and access instructions to the nForma portal.  Occasionally, these messages can get incorrectly filtered into SPAM and Junk Mail folders.  Please be aware of this and monitor accordingly.

Interschool Sports Competitions and Gala Days

Finally, our years five and six students proudly represented our school at some recent interschool and gala sports events.  These days are focussed on student participation within a friendly competitive spirit.

Congratulations to our teams in AFL, soccer and Tee-Ball, who have all progressed into the next stage of the interschool competition.  Thank you to the teachers and PE and sports leader Karl Camerino for preparing and training the students in readiness for the competition.  I would also like to acknowledge the excellent support the school has received from parents as coaches, support roles or spectators on the day.  The sense of support and community that come about from parent involvement is what makes St Simon’s School a great community to be a part of.
