Physical Education

Dear Parents

As we begin semester 2, I wanted to provide you with an overview of what your kids will be covering in their physical education classes in the coming months.

For our Foundation students, the focus will be on developing fundamental movement skills. They will be engaging in activities that enhance their catching, kicking, and dribbling abilities. These activities are designed to build their coordination and confidence in physical activities.

Grade 1 and 2 students will be exploring a variety of sports and games. They will be learning about single hand striking, target games, and rhythmic movement. This semester will encourage teamwork and cooperation as they engage in these fun and interactive activities.

Moving on to Grade 3 and 4, our students will be further developing their skills in a range of sports. They will be focusing on single hand striking, soccer, throwing and catching, and basketball. This will provide them with a solid foundation in these sports and enhance their overall physical abilities.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students will have an exciting semester ahead. They will be participating in target games, soccer, netball, cricket, and hockey. These activities will not only improve their physical fitness but also foster their strategic thinking, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

In addition to the regular physical education curriculum, we have some exciting events coming up. The district athletics carnival is just around the corner, where students will have the opportunity to display their athletic skills and compete against other schools. We also have the P-3 swimming program, which will help our younger students build water confidence and learn essential swimming techniques.

Thank you for your ongoing support in encouraging your children to participate in physical education and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. I look forward to a successful and rewarding semester ahead!

Warm regards,

Matthew Rice

Art

Welcome to Term 3 Visual Art! Thanks to Mrs. Naj for her excellent work in Term 2. The students had a wonderful time and produced some terrific pieces of ceramics and textiles. The grade 5 and 6 tiles have been glued onto the planters in the mosaic garden. Get along to have a look at the beautiful work that these students produced.

This term we are excited about our Art Show. It will take place at the end of the term and will feature a piece of work from every child. Look out for further details in the coming weeks.

This term all students will be exploring construction and collage. Foundation students will be experimenting with paper, making columns and pathways to create unusual and wild pieces. Grade 1s are currently enjoying making papier-mâché cars and Grade 2s are making creatures from plastic bottles. Ridiculously large donuts made from newspaper are on the Grade 3 menu, whilst the 4’s are building self-portraits out of cardboard. Finally, the Grade 5’s will turn newspapers into dragons whilst the 6’s will be making masks from plaster.

In the second half of the term the focus will fall on collage. Collage is the process of making pictures by gluing various materials together. Students will be using a variety of papers, magazines, photos, fabric to construct their pictures. As a result, the art room will need donations of certain supplies such as newspapers, magazines, and craft papers. If you can help with any of these please drop them off at the office.

STEM

Welcome to Term 3 of STEM!

In Foundation through to Grade Two, the focus will be on forces, including gravity, push and pull, magnets, sink and float. Through different hands-on activities students will experiment with various objects, understanding how gravity keeps our feet on the ground and how it influences the motion of objects around us. Students will explore push and pull, and how these forces affect the movement of everyday items. Students will then be focusing on the topic of minibeasts, exploring lifecycles, behaviour and their importance to life on earth.

Grades Three and Four students will also be studying forces and investigating different concepts, including friction and will be taking their learning further through fun, hands on activities. They will also be looking at ways to plan and conduct experiments including making predictions, following a procedure and safely using materials and tools.

In Grades Five and Six, Term 3 will focus on understanding animal adaptations and exploring the water cycle. In the 'Animal Adaptations' unit, students will explore how animals and plants adapt to their environments to survive and thrive. They will also be working on designing and building their own creature, focusing on a particular habitat, its diet and how it moves. During our 'Water Cycle' unit, students will learn about the journey of water through its different forms, from liquid to vapor to ice and back again. They will learn how this continuous process sustains life on Earth.
