NAPLAN 2023
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/guardians to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.
As with the last two years, NAPLAN will be conducted online. Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are more engaging for students. One of the main benefits is tailored (or adaptive) testing, where the test presents questions that may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses.
This year NAPLAN has moved to Term 1. Commencing next Wednesday 15th March all our Year 7 and Year 9 students will sit their NAPLAN tests (Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy). The testing period will continue into the following week with the ability to hold catch-up sessions for students that miss any of their tests.
Students in Year 7 and Year 9 will need to ensure that they have the following items with them for the tests:
- a charged laptop
- headphones
- pen or pencil
- a novel (recommended to read if tests finish early)
NAPLAN results can be utilised in a number of ways. It offers parents/guardians the opportunity to see the progress their child is making to support conversations with their teachers. At a school level, NAPLAN enables teachers to use results to help identify students who need greater challenges or extra support. Schools use results to identify strengths and areas of need to improve teaching programs and to set whole-school goals in literacy and numeracy.
