It is hard to believe that we only have four weeks left of Term 1.

The Wellbeing team has now welcomed Beth Mennie to our team.  Beth is a Youth Worker provided to us by the Les Twentyman Foundation.  Beth’s role will be working with our young people who are currently facing challenges with attending school regularly.  If you believe your child requires this extra layer of support in attending school, please contact the Director of your student's relevant Subschool, who will liaise with our Director of Wellbeing, Kerri Haworth.

Kingston Youth Services - Year 7 lunchtime activities dates:  March 1, March 15 and April 5.

Come along on March 15 to play some more fun games with the staff from Kingston Youth Services.  Different games will be played each time they visit.

International Women’s Day - March 8 -  #embraceequity

Photos were taken of students and staff striking the #embraceequity pose to shine a light on creating an inclusive world which we made into a clip.

Student Wellbeing Bulletin

Please look out for the first edition of the Student Wellbeing Bulletin which has tips and strategies for our students that is theme based.  The theme for the first edition is Adaptability which is always important at the beginning of a new school year where students are adapting to a new schedule, new subjects, new teachers and a new routine.  Our Year 7 students are adapting on a bigger scale, as they transition from primary to secondary school.

We hope as parents, you also enjoy reading the Student Wellbeing Bulletin and reinforce the messages and strategies with your young person through conversations you have with them when you are discussing their day or how they are feeling.

If you notice any changes in their demeanour or they mention that they might be struggling, talk to them, ask them open-ended questions such as:

  • Tell me about what is happening to make you feel this way.
  • How would you describe your feelings at the moment?
  • What have you tried to do to change or improve this situation?

Other questions you may want to ask your child regularly are:

  • How would you describe your best day?
  • What were the three best things that happened today?
  • What motivates you?
  • What do you see as your strengths?
  • How could you use those strengths to help you feel less stressed?

Research tells us that just 10 minutes spent with your child every day, listening to them without any distractions, can deepen your connection with your child and improve their wellbeing and self-esteem.  It fulfils two primary emotional needs: belonging and significance.
