Getting to know each other through our investigations in Maths
In MLA this term we have begun our Maths learning in the area of Data by asking questions, collecting, displaying and reflecting on the information collected. This provided an opportunity for us to get to know each other. Some questions the students asked each other were:
How tall are you?
What is your favourite animal?
What is your favourite food?
What sports do you play?
What’s your favourite number?
What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
What is your favourite colour?
Students then organised their data, selected and created their own graphs.
Students then had the opportunity to apply their understanding of displaying data and build new ICT skills by creating more than one graph using Word and Excel. They explored the different features and ways to modify and enhance their graphs digitally. They reflected on the strengths and weaknesses of different types of graphs and made statements about the data.
