Chaplaincy at OGPS

Chaplaincy at OGPS

Ocean Grove is fortunate to have a long running – over 30 years - chaplaincy program. We have been at the forefront of wellbeing and caring for our students.

What does Chaplaincy look like? – Great Question?

At Ocean Grove Primary my work is pastoral care, which is ‘being there’ in the moment with students/ families and staff to assist with resources and day to day practical/ social and emotional support.

I have many, many conversations over the day that can range from a smile and hello at the gate in the mornings and afternoons, being upset, a friendship problem, to the deeper challenges of life. If any of these moments arise and you feel your child is in need of extra support please contact your teacher or myself to complete a parent consent form and we can talk about how  I can support you.

I also open up the wellbeing room Monday/ Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes and Wednesday recess where students can pop in for a board game or do some drawing. The wellbeing has become a good area to connect with other students also.

Over this term I will be working alongside a group of Year 6 students that have been chosen for the Peer Mediation team. They will be trained to support their peers in the playground and open up the Play Pod. They are keen to get started.

Other aspects of Pastoral care are assisting in the social and emotional wellbeing in classrooms. Alongside our MHWB Andy, I run classes when needed supporting the classroom teacher in their care for their students.

At the end of the day, I want the best for all OGPS students and their families and I am here to help!

Thankyou

Rhonda
